STAMPED COVERS OF GREAT BRITAIN

1865 Trans-Atlantic packet cover from Glasgow to Hamilton, Canada West (Ontario).
Attractive, Scarce, Triple Weight Glasgow Packet Letter with very fine stamps.

Great Britain Pair of 1 Shilling Green 1862 Issue, Plate 1 (actually Plate #2) on 1865 Trans-Atlantic packet cover from Glasgow to Hamilton, Canada West (Ontario). Attractive, scarce Triple Weight Letter with very fine stamps.

The Allan Line "Peruvian" sailed December 7, 1865 from Liverpool arriving in Portland, Maine (its winter port) on 18 December, 1865. The 2 shilling rate on the Canadian Packet paid the Triple Rate (1½ ounce). This is a beautiful example of the Glasgow to Londonderry packet also known as the Glasgow Colonial Packet. Mails from Glasgow would be sent directly to Londonderry where the Liverpool steamer would pick up mail as it passed. (see Arnell p.177)  This would explain how a December 7th Glasgow Cancel could get to Londonderry and still catch the Peruvian which sailed from Liverpool on the 7th.
