STAMPLESS COVERS OF SWEDEN

SWEDEN – 1839 Stockholm to London

Front:  Folded Double weight Commercial Cover. Stockholm Black Circle CDS Canx dated  19 March 1839 (Normal Canx 6 - Type 10), ms lower left "fr Hbg" or Franco Hamburg means paid to Hamburg.  Script "1n8" is British charge of 1 shilling and 8 pence to be collected from addressee.  Faint but attractive Black "Butterfly" Hamburg 26 Mar 1839 cancel within wings (possibly Type 5).  Ms in upper left is 30g(ram) weight or 1 oz. British packet charge from Hamburg to London was 1n8 for ½oz letter but this was a double weight letter not charged as such on the British end. The ms "4" to the left of the Stockholm cancel is Hamburg's 4 shilling accountancy charge which was part of the post already paid. The ms "31" in the upper right is likely a listing number (karteringsnummer)

Condition: Very Fine with usual file folds
Contents:  In Swedish about mercantile shipments and payments for Pepper, Pimento, Cassia (Indonesian Cinnamon) and Indigo.
