Front:
Blue Troy, NY CDS, Blue "PAID", small indistinguishable blue
rate mark next to ms rate mark (likely "6" as it matches a "6" written
inside the cover) and marked "Paid" as well in ms.
The City of
Ballston Spa was incorporated in 1807 and in 1816 became the County Seat
of Saratoga County and hence the repository of County Court records. As
an interesting sidebar, Abner Doubleday was born and raised in Ballston
Spa and three years earlier had invented the US National Pastime of
baseball, while years later he fired the first shot of the Civil War.
This according to the Abner Doubleday Society! |
